How to Watch ZEE5 in USA (Updated October 2026)

Last Updated on September 13, 2026 by Walter

ZEE5 is an Indian streaming service with over 200,000 hours of films, series and originals across roughly 15 languages, plus 100+ live channels. It launched in the USA in June 2021 and the US is now its largest market outside India, so the old advice that “ZEE5 is blocked in America” is simply out of date. What actually trips people up is the difference between the US catalogue and the Indian one.

Here is how to watch ZEE5 in the USA – both the official US way and the trick for India-only titles – plus which VPNs work and why free VPNs are not worth it.

How to Watch ZEE5 in the USA – Quick Guide

1. Set up the US app: Go to zee5.com/global or install the ZEE5 app from the App Store, Google Play, Fire TV or your smart TV store and create an account.
2. Start free: Open the FREE5 section to watch a rotating selection of films, shows and originals with ads, no subscription needed.
3. Subscribe for the full US catalogue: A US plan unlocks the wider library, downloads on mobile and up to 4K on supported titles.
4. Want India-only titles? Install a VPN, connect to a virtual India server, then sign in to ZEE5 again.
5. Watch: Your device now reads as being in India, so the India-licensed catalogue becomes available.

Is ZEE5 Available in the USA?

Yes. ZEE5 Global launched in the US in 2021 and operates as a subscription service there – the only international market where ZEE5 runs subscriptions rather than the ad-supported freemium model. You can watch on the web, phones, tablets, Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Android TV and Samsung or LG smart TVs.

Two honest caveats most guides skip. First, a US subscription does not include every title in the Indian catalogue: some films and shows are licensed for India only, and regional add-ons such as Simply South, OHO Gujarati and Chaupal are billed on top. Second, in-app downloads are mobile-only, time-limited and stay inside the app. If a specific title lives only in the India catalogue, a VPN is the way to reach it.

Top VPNs to Watch ZEE5 in USA

We tested more than 25 VPNs against ZEE5, scoring them on unblocking, India-location speed, streaming quality, privacy and support. These three came out on top for viewers in the US.

VPN	Best for	Devices	Money-back
Surfshark VPN	Budget, unlimited devices	Unlimited	30 days
NordVPN	Fastest India location	6	30 days
ExpressVPN	Most reliable streaming	8	30 days

1. Surfshark VPN

• Virtual India location with solid speeds
• Unlimited simultaneous connections
• AES-256 encryption and CleanWeb ad blocking
• Camouflage mode for restrictive networks
• 30-day money-back guarantee

Surfshark VPN is the best value here and the most flexible, because one account covers every screen in the house. Its Wi-Fi and India locations unblock ZEE5 consistently, CleanWeb cuts the ad load, and the kill switch prevents IP leaks if the tunnel drops.

• Virtual India location
• SmartPlay for streaming

• 6 devices and a 30-day money-back guarantee

NordVPN is the fastest of the three to an India location, which matters when you are streaming HD or 4K across continents. SmartPlay combines unblocking with malware protection, and the apps are mature on every platform ZEE5 supports.

• Lightway protocol for stable long-distance speeds

ExpressVPN is the one we reach for when a stream refuses to start. It is the most expensive option on this list, but its unblocking reliability and 24/7 live chat make it worth it if streaming is your main use, not just privacy.

Use a VPN to Get the Indian ZEE5 Library in the USA

ZEE5 checks where your connection comes from. When you sign in from a US IP, you get the US catalogue; when the IP looks Indian, the India-licensed titles unlock. That is the whole mechanism.

• ZEE5 detects VPN ranges, so a server that works today can stop working next month. Reputable providers rotate IPs to keep ahead of it.
• Routing through India costs speed. Expect lower bitrates and more buffering on live channels than on a US connection.
• Billing still keys off your real region. Paying with a US card while on an Indian IP can fail – subscribe first on your normal connection, then switch.

For everyday US streaming, the official US account is the smoother path. The VPN route is for the one title you cannot find anywhere else.

The process is the same outside the US. Create an account in your region, then connect a VPN to a virtual India server if you need the India-only catalogue. Surfshark VPN remains our top recommendation, with NordVPN as the faster alternative.

Do Not Use Free VPNs for ZEE5

Free VPNs almost never carry an India location, and when they do the connection is too slow and too crowded for streaming. Several fund themselves by logging or selling usage data, which is the opposite of why you would use a VPN. If cost is the concern, start with the FREE5 section on ZEE5 and pair it with a paid VPN only when you actually need the India catalogue.

FAQs

Is it legal to use a VPN to access ZEE5 in the US?

Using a VPN is legal in the United States. The advisory is about the service's terms, not the law: check ZEE5's Terms of Service before you bypass a regional restriction, and use a VPN only for lawful viewing.

Can I watch ZEE5 in the US without a VPN?

Yes – ZEE5 Global is officially available in the US. Sign up at zee5.com/global for the US catalogue and FREE5, and add a VPN only for titles licensed solely inside India.

How do I watch ZEE5 for free in the USA?

Use the FREE5 section on zee5.com, which carries a rotating selection of films, shows and originals with ads and no subscription.

How many devices can I use at once?

That depends on your VPN, not ZEE5. Surfshark VPN allows unlimited simultaneous connections, NordVPN covers 6 devices and ExpressVPN covers 8.

Can I watch ZEE5 on a smart TV or PS4?

Yes. ZEE5 has native apps for most smart TVs and Fire TV, and you can share a VPN connection from a router or a hotspot to devices that cannot install a VPN app directly, including consoles.

Conclusion

ZEE5 in the USA is no longer a geo-blocking puzzle: the service is officially here, FREE5 covers casual viewing for free, and a US plan handles most of what people want. A VPN becomes useful only when a title lives in the India catalogue, and for that Surfshark VPN is the cheapest reliable choice while NordVPN is the fastest. Try one risk-free with its 30-day money-back guarantee.
